GLBT Community Center

The Washington, DC area numbers among the few major metropolitan regions in the country with a large GLBT population that does not have a central gathering place for our community. That is about to change. Funded by a quarter-million dollars from the Cherry Fund and encouraged by a marketing survey reflecting overwhelming community support, an organizing committee consisting of individuals and representatives of various community groups, has begun planning a new, large-scale Community Center. Community groups include:

  • Brother Help Thyself
  • Cherry Fund
  • The Mautner Project
  • One In Ten
  • SMYAL

Efforts are already underway relating to site selection, organizational structure, marketing, finance, government relations, community outreach, administration, and programs. The Center's long-term mission is to bolster our community's collective identity, pool the community's resources for efficiency and economies of scale, and supplement the critical work of existing community-based organizations.
